WHALE IS FIN, officially speaking that is.

I noticed that the last entry was in August and that needs an explanation.  So then, what the hell been happening between then and now?  Well, after another few months of recutting, living life, thinking about the important things, and most importantly, focusing on what this film really is, I am proud to say that it is officially finished.

This has been an incredibly long process.  The early press and reviews(pretty positive) came from an unfinished press screener released prematurely.  There are many reasons why this happened, but mostly because after years of continual work in the arts, I was tired.  I felt exhausted and burnt out.  I wanted to think of other things other then projects.  You know, family, women, literature, my dog, my heritage, simply, other shit.

So, in a sense, I gave up on it.  I didn't want to face the truth.  I couldn't sit in front of a computer any longer.  But, this hiatus turned into a battle of the will.  After two months of inactivity, I was called out by a friend.  He put it in simple turns.  He made me question how I could just be content with releasing something that was at most, a refined rough cut.  I argued with him that I hadn't released it, I was just waiting.  He asked me, "for what?".  I guess it was time.

So, with a new life fire and inspiration (rest) from taking my first vacation in years, I went back and finished WHALE.  This is the end, but also the beginning.  In the next couple of weeks I am going to outline my plan.

The plan itself has nothing traditional in it.  Its very simple and basic.  I have a product, and I am going to make it available.

Best,

"Pulsing with a Restlessness of Purpose and Vision"

Again, it seems odd to post interviews for a film that has yet to premiere, but we are in the world of web 2.0, and as a singular artist without the privilege of high profile producers, I must presume that interested parties will find the information relevant as both pre, or post context after viewing WHALE in due time.

A short time ago, I did this interview at BrainTrustdv conducted by Alejandro Adams, which starts with this nice press quote.

"Amir Motlagh sets out to eradicate “division of labor” filmmaking with
whale, an elliptical work pulsing with a restlessness of purpose and vision."

For the rest of the interview, mosey along to BrainTrustdv

New blog on new site while old blog is saddened

While we are setting up the new site, a thought occurred to me.  This is not the first "whale" blog and if i were to say otherwise, i would be setting myself up for personal treason.

In fact, another one exists, but has been neglected possibly for over two years.  I have not visited, nor will i link up to that blog, the existence alone is a testiment in letters, albiet crude ones, of the passage of time associated with the making of this picture.  Its been a long tough road, but nevertheless, i feel at peace.

But hopefully with this blog, i will keep a promise, and commitment to keep the information flowing, as soon as it reaches my phone, email, or otherwise, any and all web 2.0 platforms that keep our modern lives both inspiring and deafening in one singular swoop.

Thank you for visiting,
